Canada France Hawaii Telescope Hosts Community Expo

The Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope, with an observatory on Mauna Kea but with its headquarters in Waimea, opened its doors on Friday to more than 200 students and the community in celebration of Manufacturing Day 2017.

The event was part of “an effort to showcase the diverse manufacturing that occurs on the Big Island and draw attention to the outstanding opportunities that a career in manufacturing can provide,” the telescope stated in a video news release.

Tours were offered of the CFHT machine shop, and there were demonstrations and displays from other manufactures in the community.
