Facts & Stats

The Economic Census, the Census Bureau's most comprehensive source of information on American businesses and the economy, began covering the manufacturing sector during the first Economic Census conducted in 1810. Today, the Bureau's manufacturing statistics help paint a picture of the U.S. economy and the role this sector plays in it. The Bureau has created a special page for Manufacturing Day on its website that contains the following categories of information:

  • Snapshot of general monthly manufacturing statistics in the U.S.
  • Key economic measures for manufacturing from 1997 - 2012
  • Annual manufacturing and international trade report
  • Stats and links to government studies and reports on manufacturing
