York County Manufacturing Days

Nearly 500 York County high school Juniors and Seniors spent the day at a host manufacturer for plant tours, lunch with employees, hands on opportunities, and meeting and hearing from employees and executives about real life application of math and science, and the career path opportunities available in manufacturing.

Manufacturers, students and teachers all reported that the event was a success. We thank our participating manufacturers for graciously hosting our students this year, and for working to create such a fantastic experience: American Hydro, Coupling Corporation, Harley Davidson, Herculite, Martin’s Potato Chips, New Concept Technology, RH Sheppard, Snyder’s-Lance, Starbucks, York Roasting Plant, SWF Industries, Tekgard, UTZ Quality Foods and Weldon Solutions.

Just some of the student comments:

  • “The most valuable part of my visit was simply being around the many different employees who gave me a diverse and in depth view on what the manufacturing industry is like.”
  • “I found this visit really made me think about what I like doing. I am a hands-on person and this type of job would fit not only my interest but my skills.”
  • “The most valuable part of our tour to me was the experience and passion that all the employees show to us about their work.”
  • “This showed me that you don't need to go to college to become successful. There was a man that started at the bottom of the company and worked himself all the way to the top. It's very inspiring.”
  • “The most valuable part for me was seeing how the engineers work. I would like to get my bachelors degree in electrical engineering.”
