In 2013, County Executive Mark A. Hackel invited local media to join him on a tour of area manufacturing facilities. The goal was to showcase the high-tech work being done and to create greater awareness about the great careers offered by the industry. Afterward, Executive Hackel hosted a round table with leaders of area manufacturers to learn more about the challenges faced by the industry. One of the concerns heard was that there aren't enough young people being encouraged to enter the field. MFG Day 2014 will introduce up to 1,200 students from 28 high schools to manufacturing. They will visit area plants to see manufacturing in action and meet people who make things. A follow-up expo in December will focus on hands-on activities for families and highlight the educational pathways that lead to meaningful careers in the industry. For more information:
