In October, GM Orion Assembly will kick off a sponsored project for students from Oakland University to demonstrate GM's support of manufacturing higher education in Michigan. They will work on GM's news propulsion technology and expand their knowledge in manufacturing lean manufacturing strategy.

About GM Orion Assembly

GM Orion Assembly is currently producing the Chevrolet Sonic and Buick Verano. Ranked as the eighth largest user of green power generated onsite in the U.S. Over half of the plant is powered by methane captured from decomposing trash in a nearby landfill. Saves $1 million a year by using renewable energy. Home to a 350-kilowatt solar array that sends energy back to the grid. Over its 32 year history, Orion have built more than 5.1 million vehicles. The facility met EPA’s ENERGY STAR Challenge for Industry in 2013 by reducing the energy intensity of its operations by 67 percent within two years. The efforts avoided 42,758 tons of CO2 emissions. The plant holds the distinction of becoming the first GM facility to receive the Clean Corporate Citizen designation by the State of Michigan. Hourly employees are represented by UAW Local 5960.
