Facility Tour / Presentation

October 7, 2016 8:00am

11550 Statesville Blvd
Cleveland, NC 27013

Nominated students from three local North Carolina Rowan and Iredell county high schools will be transported to three local manufacturing facilities for short tours, then come together at Daimler Trucks' 1.5 million square foot heavy truck manufacturing plant in Cleveland for lunch. Following lunch, there will be a short presentation from the local community college, an interactive tour of Daimler's largest truck assembly plant in the USA where Freightliner and Western Star trucks are produced, then a meet-and-greet with one of NC's congressional representatives. Daimler Trucks is the largest producer of commercial vehicles in the world, with famous brands like Mercedes-Benz, Freightliner, Fuso and Western Star in its portfolio, all of which will be part of an interactive display for the students. The students will be able to observe a wide variety of careers in action within a broad spectrum of manufacturing technologies. There will be a particular emphasis on the use of interactive mobile applications and vehicle telematics in logistics, inventory control, and in the vehicles themselves. On display, we anticipate the students to be able to feel-and-touch-and-see the world's first legal-for-public-use autonomous driving truck as well as Optimus Prime, the star of the 2014 hit movie, Transformers: Age of Extinction.
