Back Cove yachts is a sister company of Sabre Yachts and together
these two yards represent the largest recreational boatbuilding company in
Maine, the state where America’s first ships were built on the shores of the Kennebec River.

In 2003 a group of dealers asked if we could build a smaller downeast style cruising boat to suit the needs of our
owners who admired the look and feel of the Maine lobster boat and the dependability and fuel efficiency of a single diesel engine.
Back Cove Yachts works out of a 240,000 square-foot manufacturing facility that opened in 2006. Back Cove Yachts currently employs
200 Associates. At our facility we manufacture the Back Cove 30,32,34, 37, Downeast 37 and our flagship model the Back Cove 41. (Decks and Hulls for the larger Sabre models are also built at our facility in Rockland.) We currently have the Sabre 66 Dirigo being built in our facility here in Rockland and hull#3 is under construction. This is the largest model that we have ever manufactured. Today North End Composites also builds tooling for our Back Cove and Sabre Models but
no longer for outside clients.

Today more than (700) Back Coves can be found all over the world, in harbors from Greece to Norway,

About Back Cove Yachts

In 2003, a group of Sabre Yacht dealers met with our designers to discuss a new idea for the company’s range. The concept was a small, simple motor boat, with single diesel engine propulsion, that would be more efficient than twin engine boats and would be less costly to own and to operate. They were shown the plans for a 29 footer and they liked what they saw so much that they immediately ordered the first hulls. The design elements of the Back Cove Yachts speak to its working Maine lobster boat heritage. Yet, below the surface are modern vee-hulls, just waiting for an owner to push the throttle forward and jump up onto plane. Practical and beautiful, Back Cove Yachts are a delight to drive and a joy to behold. With ample room in the cockpits, simple and well thought out systems and comfortable amenities below deck, they will give owners years of pleasure and immense pride of ownership at a cost considerably lower than that of most other boats of this type.
